Sometimes I get words muddled. Particularly words that sound the same (homonyms). Today I got cue and queue mixed up and had to check the dictionary to work out which one meant what, which led to a very interesting discovery: the origin of ‘queue’.
It comes from heraldry and is the word for ‘a tail’. Which is why it can mean both a long thin line, like a queue of people, and a pony tail / plait.
