Times like this people don’t have to look too far for omens, because it seems like mother nature or <insert your deity> is giving us a hiding.
I think it’s an interesting aspect of human psychology that we form stories around such things not only to capture and share an extreme experience but to try to make sense of things that make no sense at all. Humans love magical thinking – it’s second nature to us.
Imagination and our species’ ability to weave narrative from events and phenomena will never cease to amaze me.
