As I’ve mentioned before, I really enjoy Jane Austen’s books. There is something in her observations of people and social interactions which manages to largely transcend time.
Having recently bought a neat little box-set of the novels, I’ve been re-reading them in no particular order. There are two things I always think when I consider these books as a ‘set’:
- Why Pride and Prejudice is so popular (and was even at the time).
- Why Emma and Mansfield Park work, even though they not obviously likeable protagonists.
I’m not the first person to ponder these things, but I feel an urge to post about it just because I really like the books. So bear with me as I look at these two things in my next post or two.
