A friend put me onto a series of blog posts by Donna Marie Hanson, who has spent quite a lot of time this year reading submissions for Angry Robot’s open submission period (which was earlier this year).
She’s sharing her observations on what makes a good read, and providing an insight into the experience of someone reading through nearly 500 subs.
This link is to the post where she starts to summarise what worked / didn’t work in the subs, but she also wrote a few prior to this about the process she’s been through, and giving comments or not. Worth checking out.
As she says herself, her observations are similar to what you’ve read elsewhere about what publishers look for, but I really liked her more personal view.
