If you haven’t noticed, there’s been a fashion for ‘skinny jeans’ going on for a while. Every time I hear someone talk about them using that term, it makes me think about how the gap between cycles of a fashion change how we talk about them.
I remember the first time someone – probably one of my parents – told me about owning a pair of “stovepipes”. They didn’t need to describe the shape of the legs to me because I could make the connection. I knew what a stovepipe was.
It’s a good thing the stovepipe has become skinny, because I’m guessing a stovepipe isn’t an obvious visual for most fashion followers today.
