I have a soft spot for the movies about Jason Bourne. Particularly the first one, so I was excited to see the first of the new series about Aaron Cross.
The Bourne Legacy is a good action movie. You won’t notice the over 2hr running time because the pace is great. It’s cleverly linked in to the final Jason Bourne movie. The performances are solid and many of the dramatic scenes are so well written that it makes you weep for what’s missing: Story.
I mean there is a story, but it’s about 10mins worth and it’s got zero depth and zero tension (other than the kinetic action scenes). There are two reasons for this…the only obstacles to the hero’s success appear at the beginning… the hero is physically and mentally enhanced so you don’t believe he’s in any real danger.
This makes me sad because Jeremy Renner is great as Aaron Cross, and the set up had so much potential.
Still, it was a good action movie of the big bang, long chase variety. And a good set up for the next movie in the franchise.
