  1. Hmm I think a Schweinehund was literally a dog for hunting boar, and it would get dirty chasing them through the mud. And “bitch” I thought came from the fact that the female of many domestic animals was reputed (maybe unfairly) to be more ill-tempered. (In German it’s “Zicke,” a female goat.) So one was more an insult to someone’s appearance and the other to their temperament …? I am not sure if my etymology is correct for either one though.

    • What I find most interesting though, is that today we wouldn’t care all that much about being called an animal of some sort compared to insults about our morals, or our family members.
