Listening to some interesting TED talks, I came across a study that looked at how we are generally happier with what we have if we know that’s our only option.
The example was if you took some good pictures and you were told you could only keep one. If you are given a period where you can change your mind about which one, you’ll be less happy with the one you keep than if you have to make an irrevocable decision.
It got me thinking that maybe we writers would be happier with our drafts if we knew we couldn’t go back and change them. Is it the fact that we can pick away at them that makes us want to change them again and again?
