This is the Kevin Smith movie that I love. Partly because the cast alone kicks-arse, but also because it’s just funny. Gross, sexist, and (among other “bad” things) offensive to an entire faith group… well yes. But it is also funny.
And who else would cast Jay and Silent Bob in the roles of prophets who help save the world?
Whether you believe Smith intended the story – two fallen angels (Ben Affleck and Matt Damon) looking for a loophole to get back to heaven – as an exploration of questions of Catholic faith, I don’t know. I do think though, past the swearing and the grossness, that it is a cleverly written and directed bit of fun.
