This is a film about the other Paris. The one you don’t see much of when you’re a dreamy-eyed tourist. The racism and the social discontent of the banlieues are here in powerful yet simple, non-preachy, story telling.
Aside from the social critique, it is just beautiful – shot in black and white – and the actors are fantastic. Well written and well directed, it’s one of the few truly serious movies to make my favourites list.
