I’ve been musing on the fact that elephants turn up a lot in concepts in the modern world. Odd, I know but stay with me…
You must have heard the term ”the elephant in the room” to describe an issue not being addressed.
Then there’s the analogy of eating an elephant to tackling tasks (i.e. you can’t eat the whole elephant without chopping it into manageable pieces).
There is also the reasonably well-known idea that if someone says “don’t think of an elephant” you’re sure to think of an elephant.
I believe there’s even a parable about seeing “the whole elephant” (i.e. if you only saw one part like the tail or an ear, you’d be completely misled about what was in front of you). Though that one may actually come from somewhere that elephants live.
Why exactly we think of elephants so much I’m not sure. Maybe because they’re such big animals.
