There’s something amazing about listening to the (commercial) music from early in your life (as opposed to childrens’ songs). The tunes you first sung along to on the radio, or that first release you bought.
It’s even better when you can listen to it with someone who shares similar memories. Which is exactly what I did this Easter weekend.
Though it happened mostly because we were ‘supposed’ to be writing and I just happen to have said music on my computer! A valid excuse for not writing, don’t you think?
Music, of course, represents the sound of the time it’s made, but I don’t feel it ‘dates’ as much as people think. Good music – whatever that means to you – is still good. If it makes you want to dance or sing, or if it moves you… those aspects of a song don’t really change.
Which is why covers can be so amazing.
