There has been writing happening. Well, reworking and editing but I’m not a quibbler.
It has taken a ridiculous amount of time to find a way to do what I wanted to do with my climactic scene. Seriously I don’t remember a chapter ever being so unwilling to give up the goods and I’m still perplexed as to why. Still, it’s working now.
I have a new core piece of action for the scene and, while it’s just a first draft with future edits to come, it’s allowed me to bring all the chapters following it into line. This has induced smiling.
My best guess as to the heart of the difficulty with this, is that I needed to find something new to hang the action off. I had written this scene more years ago than I care to name, so every time I came back to it there was this deep groove to fall back into.
What the new thing ended up being was simple and really very small in the grand scheme of the novel, but as soon as I thought of it, I knew I could write the scene.
I’m always amazed at how the writing-brain can just stop you dead until it feels ready.
