One of the things I love about taking a break from a novel I’m working on, is coming back to it a few weeks/months later and finding all this cool stuff I did that I’ve kind of forgotten.
It’s almost like someone else wrote it or made those edits. Then my brain goes “oh yeah, we did that didn’t we?” and feels pleased with itself.
Usually the writing demon is rolling his eyes at me at this point.
The best thing about this phenomenon is that usually I’m pretty happy with what I discover. I don’t think I’ve ever gone back and thought “yuk – chuck” about one of these forgotten bits.
And, as you might guess from the revisiting theme, I’ve been familiarising myself with my two main projects after the long weaving related interruption.
No, I haven’t given up weaving. Nor has the writing demon snuck off with the loom and burned it. But I think writing demon and craft demon have worked out a time-sharing arrangement that works for everyone. I also may now own more scarfs than I will use in a lifetime… I may need to move somewhere colder.
