As I mentioned a while ago, the impending – and now achieved – completion of the favourite movies list, had me thinking about some of the other film related things I might like to blog about. So, here is the first of some random posts about film, starting with actors I like:
I really like Drew Barrymore. She’s been on screen since she was little and yet she’s had a successful adult career too. She’s also done every genre which is – sadly – rare for actresses, but then she got a head start in sci-fi (Firestarter, ET) as a child, and was involved in one of the few female led westerns (Bad Girls) and one of the only female led action franchises (Charlie’s Angels).
As an adult, I guess she’s best known for the rom-coms (The Wedding Singer, Never Been Kissed, 50 First Dates) and some of the dramas (Riding in Cars with Boys, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Boys on the side), but has also done a Woody Allen film (Everyone Says I Love You) and was a producer of the cult classic Donnie Darko and directed a coming-of-age film about roller derby (Whip It).
I think she’s very likeable whether doing serious, zany or romantic characters and she expresses so much emotion with a look. Very watchable!
My favourites from her extensive catalogue are; Ever After (a sweet, non-magical version of Cinderella), Firestarter (a sci-fi about LSD experimentation on university students causing telekinetic powers in them and their child), Music and Lyrics (about an aging pop star trying to write a hit song for the latest megastar, who falls in love with his lyricist) and 50 First Dates (a comedy about a man who falls in love with a woman who cannot form new memories).
