I’ve just come back from a quick visit to some writer friends of mine (it had nothing to do with meeting their new kittens, I swear) and stemming from chats about current projects and the way our brains write, I’ve been pondering the way things seem to happen in my writing brain when I’m not looking. Particularly when I add something over here that I then discover I’d kind of foreshadowed back there long before I realised I was going to add it. (Queue spooky music.)
Is that my brain being very smart and figuring out stuff but keeping it a secret until the appropriate moment? Or is that because there are certain obvious pathways a narrative is going to take based on the prior learning/habits etc of my brain?
Not that it makes much difference to the process of these discoveries, but it’s been fun to think on.
It was a lot of fun being kitten-entertainment. Maybe that’s why I now feel the need to be all serious?
