It was supposed to be a light edit, I swear! And then I saw the plot hole.
Thankfully, it only requires rewriting one chapter and adding a few small edits in neighbouring chapters. So, in the long history of plot hole patching… not so bad! Then I can get back to that light edit… ahem.
The funny thing is that – yet again – this chapter has bothered me for a while. I’ve learnt that as a rule, if a passage or chapter bugs me over time, then it’s hiding a problem I just haven’t seen yet. Normally I look hard at those ones. In this case it was a bit of misdirection, because I thought the problem was something out entirely. Something I didn’t feel justified a rewrite.
Now I’m going to fix both issues!
Will l get the rewrite done before midnight heralds the start of the new year? Maybe… we’ll see.
Whether I do or not, I have a big hopes for productivity in 2022. With two novellas and three novels almost done, and two actually done, it should be the year I start exploring the publishing process. I also have a trilogy/quartet that I’d love to flesh out this year if there’s time. Wish me luck!
Hope the world has a better year this year to come, with more certainty and reasons to celebrate. Happy New Year everyone.
