WriMoFoFo Challenge

The Write More For Four Challenge is about trying to get more words on the page than you normally do in a four-week period.

The  Current WriMoFoFo

Next challenge is on for 2013, starting 24th August.

How Does it Work?

You can set yourself whatever word-count goal you like, but a goal of 20,000 words (under 700 words a day) strikes the right balance of achievable and challenging for most people.  Those might be edited words or new words, and on just one or on many projects – completely up to you, though I do recommend having an idea what you want to work on before the WriMoFoFo kicks off.

Edits and Word Counts

If you’re editing during the challenge, a way to simplify counting words is to take a 20,000 word chunk and treat that as your word count regardless of whether it ends up longer or shorter after the edits.

Most importantly, just use a method that works for you.

Announcing your progress to the world!

If you’d like to make a public statement of the % of your goal completed each week, then feel free to post them using the Comments on this page – use an alias if you prefer.

Suggestion for aliases: your favourite character from fiction (book or on-screen).

Good Luck and Keep Writing!

  1. I hit 9% today. Wouldn’t have done any today either (tired and possibly fighting off virus) but I couldn’t slack off with the spreadsheet staring accusingly at me. So I’d say it’s working!

  2. Well I’m a little behind on my ‘new words’ goal at 2%, but then I kicked-it on my edited words and got up to 15%. That Nifty Spreadsheet is one hard task master!

  3. If I can count writing out my shopping list, I get to 10% for COB Sunday September 1st. But I can feel a big week coming on next week, I’m still confident of hitting the target! 🙂

  4. running late on posting my results (ironic) but I’m on 16% for my new words and 26% for my edited… not too shabby but certainly not running ahead of myself!

  5. Okay, I’m at 25% – had three good days, three bad days and one that was neither. The momentum is definitely heading in the right direction though!

  6. Okay, only made it to 43% by COB Sunday night, so it will be tough to hit the overall target, but it is still more writing than usual, so regardless of what happens in the next week I can say that I DID write more for four!

  7. Well, I know there are still writing hours left in the day, but I’m calling it quits now. 69% for the end of the challenge, which I’m really happy with. There are a lot more words in the word bank than if I hadn’t been doing WriMoFoFo, so put me down as a yes for next time!

  8. I fell off the wagon around the end of the second week, and ended up at about 60% of my target. Still, any forward movement is a positive result. Thanks for the added motivation – without it, I might not have written anything over the last month!
